Children £6.25
air-raid-shelter-tour-bristol

This unique 75 minute tour will take you beneath the streets of Bristol’s Old Town to explore the biggest public air raid shelter in the city. Join us to gain exclusive access to Bristol’s best kept secret; a complete time capsule and hidden gem.

Your tour begins above ground in front of main entrance of the Corn Exchange on Corn Street, in the heart of Bristol’s Old Town.

Your local guide/personal WW2 air raid warden will begin by showing you Blitz damage above the street and describing the heart of Bristol during the 1940s.

You’ll see images of lost buildings and landmarks before heading for a subterranean adventure in our spectacular air raid shelter, which is amongst the best preserved in the country and has sat untouched for 85 years. It truly is a hidden gem.

It once served 200 locals and workers within the city valuers offices. It remains now as a testimony to Bristol’s resilience during WW2.

Your personal WW2 air raid warden/guide will then take you through rooms which have remained untouched for 85 years. You’ll see original A.R.P. posters, drawings left on the wall which were produced during the 1940s, and hear personal stories from Bristol during the Blitz.

Your tour then finishes with demonstrations and descriptions of our extensive collection of WW2 memorabilia. You’ll eventually reemerge back into the 21st century in the nation’s number one covered market where you’ll find the best food stalls and independent traders in the city.
